Flying laboratories – Krakow and Paris balloons

On 29.09.2021 a group of scientists from AGH University of Science and Technology in `Krakow, Jagiellonian University and Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management presented results of the analysis of the samples of air collected from the Balloon during a press conference. The presentation was based on a new publication: “Measurement report: Effect of wind shear on PM10 concentration vertical structure in the urban boundary layer in a complex terrain”, which appeared in JCR listed magazine: “Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics”.

Jean-Baptiste Renard from the French National Centre for Scientific Research was invited to the conference and he had his presentation, in which he shared his experiences from very similar research conducted on Paris Balloon (www.ballondeparis.com).

What makes the research special, is that the air pollution is measured in vertical profiles. Maximum attitude of the gondola during a flight on both balloons is 285 m.

Both sides declared will of future cooperation according air pollution measurement in Krakow.
